Egypt's Al Azhar University calls on all Muslims in the world to boycott Swedish and Danish products. In an official statement released Wednesday (26/7/2023), Al Azhar Egypt responded to the burning of the Koran in Sweden and Denmark, and demanded a boycott of the products of the two countries. Anadolu news agency quoted Egypt's Al Azhar University as saying the perpetrators of the Al-Quran burning in Sweden and Denmark were terrorists and criminals. "In order to defend the Koran, severe punishment must be imposed so that these racist actions against Islam and Muslims can be stopped," he said.

At the same time, Al Azhar Egypt also urged that insulting religious symbols be considered a crime by the international community. Al Azhar announced, "We strongly condemn the attitude of the Swedish and Danish governments in taking decisions that pave the way for hostile and racist policies towards Islam and Muslims." In the last few days, Korans have been burned again in Sweden and Denmark by extremist groups and people protected by the police of the two countries. These actions received widespread criticism from Arab and Muslim countries, including from Al Azhar, Egypt. Al-Azhar, Egypt in its statement on Thursday (20/07/2023) evening, responding to the desecration of the Koran in Sweden, called for a boycott of products made in this country. According to a report by AAA  Press, Al-Azhar in a statement condemned the Swedish authorities' repeated provocative actions against things sacred to Islam under the false slogan of freedom of speech.

In this statement, Al-Azhar Egypt emphasized that what the Swedish authorities did in order to grant permission to burn copies of the Koran demonstrated hateful extremism, support for terrorism and hostility towards Muslims.
