Amnesty: US welcoming Netanyahu tramples international justice
Amnesty International has denounced the decision of the United States to host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
On February 2, Netanyahu embarked on a journey to the United States to confer with President Donald Trump, thereby becoming the inaugural foreign leader to engage with Trump following his return to the White House.
Amnesty International has denounced the decision of the United States government to host the Israeli Prime Minister, who is sought by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
In its statement, Amnesty International asserted: "By extending a welcome to Netanyahu, who is sought by the International Criminal Court, the United States is exhibiting a blatant disregard for international justice and equity."
The statement further asserted: "The administration of Joe Biden has derided all international initiatives aimed at advocating for justice and equity for Palestine. Furthermore, in light of Donald Trump's inability to apprehend or investigate Netanyahu, he has distinguished him as the inaugural foreign leader to visit the White House since his return to office, thereby affording him a dual reception."
Amnesty International underscored in its statement that the United States is bound by the Geneva Conventions to prosecute or hold accountable individuals accused of perpetrating war crimes.
Similarly, the international human rights organization has asserted that there exists substantial evidence indicating that United States-supplied weaponry has played a role in the commission of war crimes. Furthermore, it has observed that the United States persistently neglects and fails to honor its commitments and obligations to prevent genocide, despite being aware that its arms are being utilized in military operations conducted by Israel in Gaza.
