Austria: Immigrant problem could topple governments

The Austrian chancellor has warned that Europe's migration problem could topple governments. According to EuroNews, Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg said: “It is obvious that immigration pressure will not decrease in the coming years and could lead to the overthrow of the government.” Schallenberg stressed that Germany must participate in discussions to combat illegal immigration. The Austrian chancellor said Austria was under the greatest pressure from the arrival of immigrants, adding that the deportation of immigrants was the "Achilles heel" of the EU asylum system. Schallenberg said European countries should put much more pressure on immigrant-sending countries and the EU should use its influence over them. This means that we will have to reconsider the issue of issuing visas and providing assistance to countries that do not cooperate with us in returning migrants, the Austrian Chancellor said. The European Union's asylum agency announced in an October report that more than 800,000 asylum applications had been registered across the EU since the start of this year. European Union countries have taken strict measures against the arrival of immigrants, drawing criticism from human rights institutions.
