Bahrain, the opposition: 'Country is turning into a cemetery of human rights'
MANAMA - Bahrain's main opposition group, the national Islamic society al-Wefaq, has expressed grave concern over the alarming human rights record in the Persian Gulf country, saying the ruling Al Khalifah regime would exploit the upcoming assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to burnish its international image. Al-Wefaq, in an open letter, addressed to the participants of the 146th Assembly of the IPU to be held from 11 to 15 March in the capital of Bahrain, Manama, said that Bahrain has turned into a graveyard of human rights as thousands of people are now being held behind bars in various prisons and detention centers across the country.
