Borrell: It's time to put pressure on Israel
European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said that the EU was left in the dark about the extent of the tragedy in Gaza, as many journalists were either killed or unable to access the region due to Israel's incessant attacks.
Borrell published an article on the EU's website on Saturday. In his article, Borrell said, "Unfortunately, the tragic situation experienced by the civilian population in Gaza, and especially the lack of access for Western journalists to the region and the loss of life of many Palestinian journalists, is unfortunately not always well known in Europe." said. In the article, the EU diplomat called on the bloc's members to unite and press for a solution to the conflict in Gaza, where nearly 24,000 people have been killed since the Israeli regime launched an offensive on the region in early October. He said the lack of consensus among EU members on how to respond to the conflict in Gaza had weakened the bloc's position in the region and prevented it from having an influence on events. Borrell continued in his article, "The people of Gaza urgently need food, water, medicine and healthcare. Beyond bombs and bullets, famine and epidemics are beginning to threaten the lives of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians." he said. Borrell said that approximately 1.9 million people, approximately 85% of Gaza's population, were forcibly displaced due to the destruction left in the region by the Israeli army's continuous military attacks.
