Britain's Ministry of Defense under major cyber attack
Britain's Ministry of Defense has been hit by a major cyber attack, resulting in unauthorized access to the personal information of UK military personnel.
The ministry's servers were infiltrated by hackers, who obtained data on officials and actual service personnel, while British media suggested the cyber attack was carried out by China.
Hackers successfully penetrated payroll systems, compromising the personal information of ministry officials, current service personnel and veterans. The stolen data included their names and bank details, Sky News reported, claiming that individuals linked to China were behind the cyber attack.
"The British government will not name the country involved in this attack, but Sky News understands that country is China," the Sky News report said.
In response, China's foreign ministry said it "resolutely opposes and combats all forms of cyber-attacks and refuses to use this issue politically to smear other countries."
