Canada's new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, has ordered a review of the country's contract with a US arms company related to the sale of F-35 fighter jets to Canada.

The AP news agency reported the news, adding that Canada's move came after US President Donald Trump increased tariffs on Canadian goods, triggering a new wave of conflict between the two neighboring countries.

In response to Trump's recent actions, Canada's prime minister has ordered a review of the country's contract with the US military company Lockheed Martin.

Bloomberg Television reported that Carney has instructed Canada's defense minister to review the program to see whether it is currently beneficial to Canada or not.

Reports indicate that in a recent agreement between the two countries, Canada has agreed to purchase 88 F-35 fighter jets from the United States worth $19 billion to replace aging aircraft.

There is evidence that some countries have also decided to review their contracts with US contractors.

Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social social media account that he has increased tariffs on steel and aluminum products from Canada to 50% and that Canada should immediately eliminate its tariffs on American products, a move that has been met with strong reactions from the Canadian government and citizens.

Trump has said that Canada must remove the 250 to 390 percent tariffs it has imposed on various U.S. dairy products. He has threatened that if Canada does not remove its (retaliatory) tariffs, then starting next month (April) Trump will increase tariffs on cars entering the United States from Canada.
