Canadians call for permanent ceasefire in Gaza
Thousands of Canadian citizens from a variety of groups, including Palestinian, Arab, Muslim, Jewish, anti-war, labor and social justice organizations, demonstrated in Ottawa to demand a permanent ceasefire and an end to the Zionist regime's attacks on the Gaza Strip.
According to the AFP news agency, one of the participants in the demonstration, Yara Shoufani, said that a temporary ceasefire was not enough. Thousands of Palestinians were martyred and infrastructure in the Gaza Strip was destroyed during the Zionist regime's attacks on the Gaza Strip. Omar Yousef, one of the protesters (38 years old), also noted that the purpose of participating in this demonstration is to “wake up the world” to see the plight of civilians in the Gaza Strip. Yusuf continued: "The current cessation of war is definitely not enough. I believe it should be permanent." Earlier, Justin Trudeau criticized the Zionist regime and said: “The world is witnessing the murder of children, women and babies, and this process must be stopped.” In an earlier report, the Guardian, in addition to lamenting the world's deafening silence on the humanitarian and health crisis in Gaza, cited the failure of Western governments to confront the Zionist regime as the reason for the collapse of the human rights structure in the current era. According to Human Rights Watch, nearly 15,000 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since October 7, including 8,176 children.
