China: Asian countries oppose NATO's presence

For Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin, most Asian countries have a very clear position on NATO's desire for expansion to the east and do not approve of the alliance "extending its tentacles" to the region. "We have taken note of the relevant reports. NATO has repeatedly stated publicly that the organization's position as a regional alliance has not changed and that the Atlantic Compact does not seek geographical expansion.

Asia is not included in the geographical boundaries of the North Atlantic , and there is no need to create a so-called Asia-Pacific version of NATO. However, the Alliance is obsessed with moving east in Asia-Pacific to interfere in regional affairs and provoke a confrontation on the ground," Wang said in a briefing. The diplomat noted that NATO's actions have caused the international community, especially Asian countries, to become more alert.

"Most of the countries of the region have a very clear position on this issue: they oppose the formation of various military blocs in the region, they do not approve of NATO extending tentacles to Asia, they do not agree to copy the bloc confrontation in Asia and will not allow a repeat of cold or hot wars in Asia," he stressed.
