comeback of ISIS

Recent intelligence from Syria indicates that ISIS is amassing its forces for a coordinated, imminent, large-scale prison break, aiming to release its incarcerated operatives.

The likely outcome of a successful operation would be to plunge already fragile war-torn Syria – lacking a strong central government – into unparalleled turmoil, transforming it into a breeding ground for extremism with catastrophic global repercussions.

Although Turkey's pursuit of Syrian regime change has finally yielded considerable geopolitical gains, the escalation of conflict in Syria or its potential partition poses a graver threat to Turkish interests than any other player.

This is especially true given the region's history of extremist groups' ideologies, which extend far beyond the confines of a fractured Syria.
