Damascus: European Parliament must take a stand on US theft of Syrian resources

The Syrian Parliament announced that it would be better for the European Parliament not to talk about humanitarian issues in Syria, but to take a stand against the theft of Syrian resources by the US. In March, the European Parliament released a report on the humanitarian situation in Syria, which contained much of the misleading information, and it did not sufficiently mention the impact of the unfair sanctions imposed by the United States of America against the Syrian people.

A few days ago, the European Parliament unanimously approved a project that Syrian refugees in Lebanon should remain in this country. The decision drew anger and reactions from many Lebanese and Syrian politicians, who called it null and void and a violation of international law. The Syrian parliament on Sunday responded to the report by stressing that what was said in this report on the impact of unfair sanctions on the humanitarian situation in Syria is, in fact, a kind of distortion of reality that justifies the policies of some Western governments, and is only to the detriment of the Syrian people.

The Syrian parliament explained that the continuation of economic sanctions against the Syrian people is a collective punishment that is prohibited from an international point of view and requires that those responsible for this situation be held accountable. The Syrian body also added that the European Parliament does not have any independent position regarding the situation in Syria, independent of the negative stance of European countries, because if this European body is to be realistic in dealing with humanitarian issues, it must take a clear stand against the theft of Syrian energy resources and agricultural products by the American occupying forces.

The American occupiers, who are illegally present in the eastern and northeastern regions of Syria, rob thousands of barrels of Syrian crude oil from this country every day and sell them as contraband to Iraqi Kurdistan and Turkey. The Syrian government has repeatedly stressed that it will put an end to this banditry and occupation.
