Hungary has also banned imports of cereals, oilseeds as well as various other agricultural products produced or originating from Ukraine, until 30 June 2023. This was announced by Hungarian Agriculture Minister Istvan Nagy. "The Government is committed to protecting the interests of the Hungarian agricultural community, therefore, in the absence of significant measures from the EU, temporarily bans imports of cereals and oilseeds into Hungary, as Poland has done." The ban will remain in effect until June 30, 2023, according to the statement. By that date, Budapest expects the European Union to work out measures to support European farmers and revise the regulations on duty-free imports of agricultural products from Ukraine. Poland previously banned imports of Ukrainian agricultural products of plant origin and animal until June 30th.
"The government decided today to ban the import of agricultural and food products from Ukraine to Poland." This was announced by Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the leader of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, during an election rally in Lyse, an agricultural municipality in northern Poland. Kaczynski, who currently does not hold any government post, assured that his country "remains a friend and ally of Ukraine" but that "it must defend the interests of its citizens" because he fears a crisis that could spread from the countryside to the whole country. First of all, Ukrainian wheat will be affected by the ban.
