The President of Turkey, emphasizing the importance of protecting the Palestinian cause, called the formation of an independent Palestinian state with its capital in East Quds on the basis of UN guidelines and within the 1967 borders necessary for peace and stability in the entire region. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas visited Ankara on July 24 at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian issue, especially the conflict with the Zionist regime. According to AAA, Erdogan, at a joint press conference with Abbas, spoke out against actions aimed at changing the historical status of religious shrines in Palestine, especially the Al-Aqsa mosque.

He stated that Ankara was concerned about the rising death toll of Palestinians, the expansion of illegal Jewish settlements and violence from Zionist settlers. Emphasizing the expansion of relations and support for Palestine, the Turkish President said: "We will continue to defend the cause of the Palestinians in the strongest possible way and support all efforts to improve the security and well-being of the Palestinian people." Referring to the abuse of the Palestinian issue by a number of Western countries, he considered it necessary for the international community, especially the United Nations, to intervene in this issue. In turn, Mahmoud Abbas emphasized the depth of historical relations between Palestine and Turkey and regarded this meeting as an opportunity to discuss ways to expand bilateral relations.
