Establishment of the first permanent US garrison in Poland
The first permanent US military garrison in Poland will open on Tuesday.
According to TVN24, Colonel Jorge M. Fonseca, commander of the US Army Support Group in Poland, answered the question of how long the Americans will stay in Poland and said: "Four to five years maximum, but this period can be extended."
Last week, Pentagon spokesman General Pat Ryder announced his intention to establish a permanent US military base in Poland this month.
The unit was created in accordance with the decision of the President of the United States of 2022 and "will be engaged in infrastructural support for American troops stationed in the Republic of Poland," the message says. It is also specified that the tasks of the garrison will include "leading and managing the advanced outposts of American troops in Poland."
The commander of the Polish Regional Support Group also added: "The opening of this garrison shows NATO allies that we are committed to a permanent presence and we will definitely continue this permanent presence."
Last summer, US President Joe Biden announced the permanent presence of US troops in Poland.
Currently, more than 10,000 US military personnel are stationed in this Eastern European country.
European and Western countries, especially the United States, did not take a step towards ending the war in Ukraine by supplying Kyiv with all types of weapons, but instead ignited the fire of conflicts in this country.
Poznan, Poland, will host the eighth US Army base in Europe, with similar units operating in Belgium, Italy and Germany.
