EU, new 1.5 billion aid for Kiev this week
The European Union is ready to disburse a new tranche of "1.5 billion euros" of aid for Kiev "this week" as part of the macro-financial assistance package for 2023 agreed in December. This was announced by the vice-president of the EU Commission Valdis Dombrovskis in a hearing in the European Parliament. A first tranche of 3 billion euros was paid in January. Among the member countries there is "strong consensus on the need to continue to support Ukraine also through macro-financial assistance", highlighted Dombrovskis, recalling that the aid disbursed in Kiev last year amounted to 7.5 billion.
