EU will not support armed resistance in Afghanistan
Thomas Nicholson, the European Union's special representative for Afghanistan, has stated that Europe does not support the armed resistance in Afghanistan. Nicholson said during a news conference on Sunday that Afghanistan has seen years of violence and that now is the time to end that violence.
The European Union Special Representative expressed concern about the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and stressed that all Afghans should be given the opportunity to raise their voices for the country's development. He also pointed out that the entire visit to Afghanistan focused on human rights and especially on the rights of women and girls, the right to education, the right to work and participation in social and political life be granted.
Nicholson also stressed that he had spoken to the leaders of the Taliban interim government about forming an inclusive government. According to the representative of the European Union, negotiations for this should take place between Afghans in Afghanistan.
