For the first time in the last five years, Turkey was invited to an informal meeting of the EU Council
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will visit Brussels to participate in the informal meeting of the EU Council. This is the first such invitation by the EU to Turkey in the last five years. According to TASS, the official representative of Turkish Foreign Ministry, Onju Kecheli, confirmed the fact of inviting Fidan to the event.
"We welcome that invitation. It is also a sign that the EU understands the need to develop relations with Turkey in the face of regional and global challenges.
In order to achieve progress in relations, it is important that our cooperation and dialogue with the EU in all spheres proceed on a permanent and systematic basis and proceed in a predictable manner," Kecheli's words were quoted by the TRT TV channel.
European Union foreign and defense ministers will gather in Brussels on August 29-30 for an informal meeting of the EU Council.
As a diplomatic source in Brussels told TASS earlier, the participants will discuss the possibilities of new military supplies to Kiev against the backdrop of heavy losses of Ukrainian forces as a result of the invasion of the Kursk region.
