Germany, public debt hits new record: it rises by 2% in 2022
BERLIN - Germany's public debt has hit a new high of 2.37 trillion euros, according to the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). “The total public debt to non-state institutions at the end of 2022 amounted to 2,367.3 billion euros. According to preliminary data, compared to the end of 2021, public debt has increased by 2%, reaching a new high. Compared to the end of the third quarter of 2022, debt increased by 1.8%, for a figure equal to 41.9 billion euros, and now stands at 28,155 euros per capita. Among the causes highlighted by the experts, the support to fight the coronavirus pandemic in past years and the current energy crisis.
