Imam Khamenei: US has been making 'miscalculations' about Iran for decades

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has said that the United States has always been wrong in its approach towards Iran for decades now.

Imam Khamenei said this today, Wednesday, when he met with the citizens of the city of Qom, south of Tehran, on the occasion of commemorating the January 9, 1978 movement carried out by the citizens of Qom to support the founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Ruhullah Khomeini, and to help achieve the complete victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979.

In one of his insightful guidelines, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said: "Under [Iran's former authoritarian rule of the] Pahlavi dynasty, Iran served as a stronghold for achieving American interests."

He also said: "After the Revolution, the Americans have been making many mistakes regarding Iran for decades now."

Imam Khamenei further clarified by saying that his remarks were aimed primarily at those "who are intimidated by American arrogance."

Regarding the Zionist regime, Ayatollah Khamenei said that one should not think that the United States and the Zionist regime have changed and are different from what they were before, no, they have not changed. We should be a thousand times more vigilant now than ever before. 

Ayatollah Khamenei's remarks were meant to answer questions raised by some people about why Iran is holding talks with European countries but is not ready to enter into negotiations with the United States.

Analysts cite the Islamic Revolution in Iran as the force that generated the international anti-colonial movement at the highest level and that the United States continues to suffer significant losses due to the strong positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
