No Christian church should be banned

No Christian church should be banned. Pope Francis announced, referring to the ban on the Orthodox Church in Ukraine.

"Thinking about the recently adopted laws in Ukraine, I fear for the freedom of those who pray. Those who really pray always pray for everyone. Evil is not done because of prayer.

If anyone does evil to his people, he will be guilty. But he does not do evil because he prays. And let everyone have the opportunity to pray in the place they consider a church. Please do not ban any Christian Church. The church cannot be touched," the pontiff said at the end of the Sunday sermon in St. Peter's Square of the Vatican.

Let us remind you that yesterday the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the country.

The bill was prepared on the instructions of Zelensky himself and was adopted in the first reading in the parliament in October 2023.

For almost a year, it was not submitted for discussion in the second reading, because the Ukrainian authorities were afraid that the project would not gather enough votes.

On August 16, after final amendments, the relevant parliamentary committee of the Rada approved the bill. Today, Zelensky signed the law banning the Orthodox Church in Ukraine.
