RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azeri President Ilham Aliyev spoke about Armenian prisoners at the meeting held within the framework of the BRICS summit held in Kazan. Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan disclosed the information in a briefing with journalists.
It should be noted that not much is known about the details of the meeting. Earlier, the press wrote that RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan announced that he will go to the COP-29 summit in Baku if Azerbaijan returns prisoners to Armenia.
Alen Simonyan actually confirmed that news. According to him, Pashinyan and Aliyev talked for about an hour at the plenary session.
"Then they probably felt that they were disturbing others and decided to meet separately. The agreements are the same: establishment of peace, lifting of blockade, return of prisoners," he added.
Referring to the approval of the border demarcation regulation by Armenia and Azerbaijan, Simonyan noted that it is a great victory for both Azerbaijan and Armenia.
"This is a bilateral victory, this is the first interstate document between Armenia and Azerbaijan, its implementation is one of the most important cornerstones of the independence and territorial integrity of the two countries," he said.
He said that at the moment there is no decision on where the demarcation should continue.
"At the moment, discussions are going on about where to continue," said Simonyan.
The Speaker of the National Assembly emphasized that Armenia and Azerbaijan have left many unresolved issues, in case of political will, all issues can be resolved.
