Preparation of terrorism, attempt to kill Ivanishvili

The State Security Service of Georgia is investigating the case of preparing a terrorist attack and conspiracy to overthrow the government, as well as an assassination attempt against Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia party. This is stated in the statement of the State Security Service.

Earlier, the "Imedi" TV channel reported that a terrorist attack was being prepared against Bidzina Ivanishvili and other high-ranking members of the party, and the suspects in the mentioned case have been being interrogated for several days. Most of them are mercenaries who fought in Ukraine.

The State Security Service informs that it is investigating the facts of the preparation of crimes, which were financed by former Georgian officials and representatives of power structures in Ukraine.

"The goal of these criminal actions is the overthrow of the state government," the department's statement said.

Now active investigative and operational search measures are being carried out, a number of persons have been questioned as witnesses.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze also stated that the assassination attempt against Bidzina Ivanishvili was prepared by the same forces that tried to kill Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico and US President Donald Trump.
