Rocket Hits Area Near US Embassy in Baghdad
Iraqi security sources reported a rocket attack in the area near the United States (US) embassy in downtown Baghdad. Shafaq News Friday (8/12/2023) quoted an Iraqi security source as reporting that the vicinity of the American Embassy in the Green Zone located in downtown Baghdad was the target of a rocket attack. Reportedly, several explosions were heard from around the United States embassy in Baghdad along with the sound of sirens being activated inside the US embassy building. Based on this report, initial information indicates that the area around the embassy was targeted by several rockets. Earlier, Iraqi media reported that explosions were heard at the US military base, Al-Harir, where American soldiers are stationed in Erbil. A few minutes later, the Iraqi Islamic Resistance Group in a statement announced that its fighters targeted the American base at Erbil Airport with drones in response to Zionist crimes against the people of Gaza. As the new round of attacks by the Zionist regime and the full support of the United States on the Gaza strip began after October 7, American military bases in Iraq and Syria have become the targets of various attacks by resistance drones, rockets and missiles.(PH)
