Sadr Movement Leader Asks Iraqi Government to Close US Embassy
Sadr Movement leader Sayid Muqtada al-Sadr asked the Iraqi government and parliament to approve the closure of the United States (US) Embassy in Baghdad as a form of support for the Palestinian people.
According to news site Baghdadtoday , Sayid al-Sadr called on the government and political factions in the Iraqi parliament to approve the closure of the US Embassy in Baghdad due to Washington's unlimited support for the Israeli Zionist regime's crimes against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. According to Sayid al-Sadr, the closure of the US Embassy in Baghdad will be carried out with a commitment to protect US diplomatic personnel and not attack them.
"We are waiting for the government's response and action regarding this matter. If the government and parliament do not respond, we will take another position which will be announced later. Currently, everyone must wait for the official decision, and not use weapons," he stressed. Previously, the Leader of the Iraqi Sadr Movement had sent a message to Iran, Saudi Arabia and Egypt regarding condemnation of the Zionist regime's aggression in Gaza which had intensified after the al-Aqsa Hurricane operation. "Arab and Islamic countries led by Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Iran must try to provide water and food to the Palestinian people in Gaza," he said.
On Saturday, October 7, 2023, Palestinian resistance forces launched a surprise operation called "Al-Aqsa Storm" from Gaza to avenge various Israeli crimes. This attack caused heavy losses for Israel. The Zionist regime, to avenge and compensate for its defeat, as well as stop resistance operations, closed all Gaza crossings and bombarded this area massively and indiscriminately. Western support for Israel under the pretext of self-defense is practically a green light and permission for the Zionist regime to continue the brutal murder of Palestinian children and women. Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip victims of air strikes by the Israeli Zionist regime, October 2023 According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 7,326 Palestinians have been killed and 18,967 others injured since the start of Israel's massive air strikes on Gaza. 3,038 of these martyrs were children, 1,726 were women, and 414 were elderly.
