Somalia complained to Addis Ababa and threatened to support Ethiopian rebels

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, has said that if Ethiopia continues with its agreement with what he called the Somali rebels, his country will face it in the same way and establish relations with the Ethiopian rebels. Faqi added that Ethiopia must withdraw immediately from its agreement with the Somaliland region signed at the beginning of this year. The agreement gives Ethiopia access to a Red Sea port by leasing a 20-kilometer stretch of coastline in exchange for officially recognizing the area as an independent nation. The Foreign Minister of Somalia added that: "Somalia does not want to destroy Ethiopia, and that is not in the interest of Somalia and the Horn of Africa in general, but if the intervention continues, it has the opportunity to establish relations with the Ethiopian rebels." Faqi has accused Ethiopia of not wanting to use Somalia's port, but actually wants to take part of Somalia's land, noting that: "Addis Ababa was given a promise from Djibouti to use the port recognized as the closest to Ethiopia, but it did not respond to that promise, which shows that , it wants to take away the inheritance of future generations of Somalis." It will be recalled that, two weeks ago, Ethiopia sent a new representative with the rank of ambassador to Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland, for the first time since the beginning of relations between Addis Ababa and the region that declared secession from Somalia.
