A report by the British Retail Consortium shows that 55,000 shops in the country are hit by theft and looting every day, and a quarter of the European country's population say they witnessed at least one robbery in 2024.

AP cited a report by the British Retail Consortium showing that last year, a quarter of Britons witnessed thieves stealing and looting shops and attacking or harassing shop workers and their security guards.

A survey by the British Retail Consortium has found that Nottingham has become the epicenter of shoplifting in the UK, with 32 percent of the city's residents saying they have witnessed a robbery.

After Nottingham, the most serious crime has been reported in retail stores in London, with 29 percent of residents of the British capital saying they have witnessed such thefts and looting.

Shoplifting in the cities of Southampton, Leeds and Manchester is also higher than the average for theft and robbery in the UK as a whole.

The Guardian newspaper wrote: In a survey of 2,000 people in the UK, 23 percent said they had witnessed verbal and physical attacks and theft against shop workers in the past year.

A study by the British Chamber of Commerce has found that there was a 50 percent increase in the use of guns in British shoplifting and attacks on shop staff last year.

The union reported that firearms were used in 70 shoplifting incidents every day last year. Also, more than 2,000 sexual assaults, threats and racist remarks were reported against shop workers every day in 2024, compared to 1,300 cases of such acts two years ago.
