Trump: Canada 'not fit' as a country without US aid

US President Donald Trump has continued to make derogatory and sarcastic statements against various countries around the world, this time attacking one of his allies again, saying Canada is "not fit" as a country without US economic support and military protection.

Trump has also reiterated his proposal to have Canada join the United States as the 51st state, an idea that the Ottawa government strongly opposes. According to Trump, accepting it as the 51st state of the United States would be "the greatest thing [Canada] could ever do."

The US president has claimed that, "Canada doesn't spend much on its military, and this is because they think we will protect them ... they don't pay their share of the military to NATO."

Trump continued his tirade by saying: "The other thing is, we give them $200 billion a year in subsidies. If we stop doing that, and if we don't allow them to make cars through tariffs and other things - cars, trucks, etc., (Canada) is not good enough as a country."

Since officially taking office on January 20, Trump has been threatening nations around the world with sanctions, aid cuts, and high tariffs, including even US allies.

After Trump told Canada that he would impose a 25 percent tariff on the country's goods entering the United States, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded in kind and announced that American goods entering the country would also be subject to a 25 percent tariff.
