Türkiye-Erdogan wins the runoff elections
The outgoing president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, won the elections with 52.1 percent of the votes in the runoff against challenger Kemal Kilicdaroglu, who stopped at 47.9 percent of the votes.
This is what emerged from the data released by the Turkish press agency "Anadolu", not yet officially confirmed by the Supreme Electoral Council of Turkey (Ysk), with over 98 percent scrutinized. This result marks the beginning of the third term of the Turkish leader, who will remain at the helm of the country until 2028.
According to the first partial results released by Anadolu, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan leads the preferences (55.8%) compared to his challenger Kemal Kiliçdaroglu (44.2%). An overturned result, on the other hand, is provided by Anka who gives Kiliçdaroglu a slight lead (50.95%) over Erdogan (49.05%). The turnout was 84%.
According to polls, Erdogan should be re-elected. In the first round, which took place on May 14, he obtained 49.5% of the votes, the opposition leader almost 45%. The balance could be 5% going to Sinan Ogan, a right-wing nationalist politician who later decided to support the outgoing president.
