Ukraine: "Yanukovych's assets must be confiscated"

All assets attributable to former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych (ousted in 2014) and his entourage must be confiscated, a sum of over 130 million francs. The Federal Council established it on Wednesday, emphasizing that it is supporting the Ukrainian population in this way, which is grappling with the Russian military attack. However, the last word will be up to the Swiss courts. However, today's decision, a government note specifies, is in no way linked to the sanctions adopted in 2022 against Russia. The various confiscation proceedings will be brought before the Federal Administrative Court (FAC). These are assets belonging to politically exposed persons (PEPs) and people close to them, of alleged illicit origin. These individuals were related to Yanukovych. The targeted assets will remain blocked until the Swiss administrative justice has definitively resolved. If they are permanently confiscated, they will be returned to the Ukrainian population under an international agreement.
