UN: Famine in Gaza will have "apocalyptic" consequences
The Deputy Secretary-General and Emergency Aid Coordinator of the United Nations (UN) warned that blocking aid reaching Gaza could lead to dire consequences.
United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths warned that restricting aid to Gaza could have “apocalyptic” consequences.
"If fuel runs out, if aid doesn't reach people when they need it, we will have the looming famine we've been talking about for a long time," Griffiths said.
"I think our concern as citizens of the international community is that the outcome of this will be very harsh indeed," Griffiths told AFP during talks with Qatari officials in Doha. "Hard, difficult and apocalyptic," he said.
On the other hand, Philip Lazzarini, Commissioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), warned about the catastrophic situation in the city of Rafah after the attacks of the Zionist regime and the risk of displacement of 800 thousand Palestinians in this process.
On Monday, May 6, 2024, the Israeli war cabinet announced the start of a ground attack on the city of Rafah, despite international opposition./
