UNICEF: More than 3 million people are at risk of cholera in Sudan

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) yesterday warned that more than three million people are at risk of suffering from cholera in Sudan. UNICEF said this in the X social network and added that: "3.1 million people, including 500,000 children under the age of 5, are at risk of contracting cholera in Sudan."

According to UNICEF, vaccination coverage in Sudan has dropped to 50 percent from 85 percent before the power-hungry war broke out between the military generals leading the two SAF and RSF groups in April 2023.

The agency also said: "More than 70 percent of hospitals in war-affected areas are not functioning, with frontline health care workers unpaid for months now."

Since the war broke out between the military generals in Sudan until now, epidemic diseases such as cholera, malaria, measles and dengue fever have spread widely and caused hundreds of deaths.

In August this year, the Ministry of Health of Sudan announced an outbreak of cholera in the country after the destruction of the clean environment system due to the war and people having to use dirty water.
