US DHS staff calls for immediate ceasefire in Gaza
US Department of Homeland Security officials sign letter calling on Biden administration to support ceasefire in Gaza
More than 130 US DHS staffers have called on President Joe Biden's administration to support an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. They sent a corresponding letter to the American Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. “We join our colleagues and colleagues on Capitol Hill, USAID, the State Department and throughout the Executive Branch who have expressed similar concerns in calling on the Biden Administration to call for an immediate ceasefire and cessation of hostilities,” CNN quoted the document as saying. The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip on December 13. CNN says there is growing dissatisfaction within the Biden administration with the president's handling of the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Earlier this week, several dozen political and administration officials rallied in front of the White House, calling on Joe Biden to support a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The TV channel explains that the letter is dated November 22, 2023. The authors of the appeal work for several federal agencies within the department, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and US Citizenship and Immigration Services.
