A US senator who took a hardline stance against Iran has been sentenced to prison for corruption and accepting bribes.
Former New Jersey senator Bob Menendez has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for bribery and corruption, including receiving cash, a Mercedes Benz and gold bars to help three businessmen and the Egyptian government.
Menendez, who was Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, was convicted last year of 16 counts in connection with a long-running corruption case, making him the first U.S. senator to be indicted and convicted as an agent of a foreign government.

Bob Menendez was a hardline senator who advocated for tougher sanctions against Iran and was known as a hawk on the Islamic Republic.
