Blizzards and extreme cold forced the closure of schools and many businesses in North and South Dakota,Minnesota, where the National Guard was mobilized to rescue motorists, and Wisconsin. 75 million people, from Nebraska to New Hampshire, are on alert for winds that could reach 80 kilometers per hour, bringing freezing air even to 40 below zero. In the northern states, 60 cm of snow is expected. 5,000 flights cancelled. On the other hand, record heat is on the way to the East and South.
