Three Israeli-American real estate tycoons have been charged with illegal sex trafficking in a case involving abuse against "a dozen women" over more than a decade.
Tal and Oren Alexander, along with their brother, Alon, who are known for selling real estate in New York and Miami, were arrested in Florida last Wednesday and are expected to be extradited to New York to face charges.
According to the indictment, the three Israeli brothers are accused of using their wealth and prominent positions in the real estate market to "drug, sexually abuse and rape women" between 2010 and 2021.
The American Israelis also face an eight-page indictment for "working with other known and unknown individuals" to carry out a similar scheme to traffic people in the sex trade.
The charges say the scheme involved inviting women to parties and using the promise of luxurious experiences and travel to lure them and take them to various locations in the United States and abroad where extreme violence was committed.
The lawyer representing the victims, David Gottlieb, welcomed the charges and said: "We commend all the survivors who have had the strength and courage to speak out about their unimaginable experiences after years of pain and suffering." If convicted, the Israelis could face sentences of 15 years to life in prison.
