WHO: The world community has forgotten Syria
The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) has criticized the work of the international community in helping the victims of the earthquake in Syria. After visiting the quake-hit areas of northwestern Syria, World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus tweeted on Friday that the situation in Syria's earthquake-hit areas was "bad" and that the international community had forgotten about Syria. Adhanom stressed: 12 years of war, economic collapse, Covid-19, drought and now earthquake. Everyone can imagine the situation in which the Syrian people live. Where is humanity? The WHO Director-General entered northwestern Syria, where the epicenter of the earthquake struck, from Turkey on Wednesday via the Bab Al-Hawa border crossing in Idlib. Adhanom had previously visited three hospitals and a temporary shelter for earthquake survivors near the Turkish border. Speaking to reporters, the director-general of the World Health Organization said: The people of north-west Syria need help from the international community to recover and rebuild. I ask the international community, governments and humanitarian activists to help this country. The 78-magnitude earthquake left extensive damage in five provinces of Syria, which, in addition to material damage, claimed thousands of lives.
