Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the "Zangezur Corridor" will provide an alternative route and capacity, the Turkish Anadolu Agency reports.
"Our current Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway connection has a certain capacity. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars line is a line that simultaneously provides a connection with the Black Sea ports through the territory of Georgia. But cargo can also be transported on a direct line. We proceed from the fact that there should be an alternative - a line that starts from Kars and reaches Igdir-Diluj, and from there to Nakhichevan.
"It is 43 kilometers through Armenia, 61 kilometers through Iran. Then the line passes from Azerbaijan to the Far East through the Caspian Sea. Work on this project will start in the coming months. There is a railway line in Nakhichevan, it will be renovated. This line will provide additional capacity by creating an alternative route," Uraloglu said.
