Four people have been brutally killed while dozens of others have been kidnapped in an attack carried out by a group of armed men in the state of Zamfara in the northwest of Nigeria.
Salisu Ibrahim, one of the witnesses of the incident, told the Anadolu news agency that the gunmen attacked the town of Kasuwa-Daji, in the Kaura-Namoda region, and started shooting indiscriminately. Residents say the attackers surrounded the police station in the area for about 30 minutes, before kidnapping at least 40 residents. The Police Spokesman, Yacid Abubakar has confirmed the news of the attack by gunmen early yesterday Tuesday in Zamfara state. He said the security officers are working hard to rescue the kidnapped villagers. Kidnapping is now commonplace in northern Nigeria Kidnapping for ransom is a serious problem in Nigeria, with criminal gangs carrying out kidnappings on highways, homes and even schools. Kidnapping began to be a serious problem in Nigeria at the beginning of the third millennium, but experts attribute the recent increase in these incidents to the economic crisis that pushes some groups to commit crimes to earn money.
