African politician: USA have killed our leaders and are now coming to teach us democracy
well-known journalist and chairman of the Socialist Party of Zambia, Fred M'membe, has railed against the persistent colonial attitudes towards Africa by US politicians, calling them "murderers". His statements came in the middle of a visit to the region by US Vice President Kamala Harris. Infopal reports it.
In his words, the United States is "a country that overthrew many governments in Africa" and "led" a large number of coups not only in this continent, but around the world. Washington "has assassinated many of our leaders in Africa and other parts of the world," continued M'membe, winner of several international awards for his journalistic work, and named one of the world's heroes for press freedom by the International Institute of the Press, as well as receiving the International Press Freedom Award from the Committee to Protect Journalists.
"The assassins of Patrice Lumumba, those who overthrew Kwame Nkrumah, those who killed Nasser, those who killed Muammar Gaddafi", is the list compiled by M'membe during a speech given at the International Forum on Democracy held in Beijing. The journalist and politician described the United States as "a country that was built on brutal force, on the enslavement of other human beings, on the humiliation of Africans, on the exploitation of Africans, on the plundering of Africa, today it comes to teach us the democracy?” he lamented.
"If you don't have respect for the dignity of others, if you don't have respect for the sovereignty of other countries, you cannot claim to be promoters of democracy", he concluded.
