The US Secretary of State, in a meeting with his Indian and Chinese counterparts, asked these two countries to remove Russia from placing nuclear weapons in space. The New York Times reported that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, asked Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar to ask their heads of state to called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to halt his plans to deploy nuclear weapons in space. Last Friday, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby announced that US intelligence officials have access to information confirming Russia's purchase of a new anti-satellite weapon that Kirby said is not capable of cause "physical destruction" on Earth. Kirby, citing US intelligence officials, claimed that this technology has not yet entered the operational phase and that Washington is reviewing and analyzing the information and consulting with its allies and partners. He added: First of all, this technology is not yet operational, and despite Russia's efforts to create problems with it, there is no immediate threat to anyone's safety. Kirby continued: We're not talking about a weapon that can be used to attack people or wreak havoc on Earth.
