Dangote factory started selling jet fuel to Europe
Nigeria's Dangote Oil Refinery has started selling jet fuel to European countries.
The Nigerian media reported yesterday Saturday that 45,000 tons of jet fuel are being transported by the Doric Breeze ship by the British Petroleum Corporation BP from the Dangote Oil Refinery in Lagos, to the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
The plant, which is the largest in Africa, was officially launched in May 2023, but it started production of diesel and jet fuel in January this year, thus marking a major step in its operations and the Nigerian petroleum sector in general.
The Dangote Oil and Petrochemical Refinery, located in the Dangote Free Industrial and Commercial Zone in Lagos, has the capacity to refine 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The refinery is built in an area of approximately 2,635 hectares.
There is hope among Nigerians that the plant will contribute to reducing the price of petroleum products and potentially transform the country's energy sector in the coming years.
Although Nigeria is one of the largest oil producers in Africa and also has the largest economy in the country, the country is currently heavily dependent on imported oil and diesel due to a lack of refining capacity.
