The United Nations has reported that a significant portion of Gaza City has become an "Abandoned City." According to UN humanitarian agencies on Tuesday, approximately 450,000 Palestinians have been forced to flee the Rafah area due to Israeli attacks.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) shared on its website X from the West Rafah region: "The streets are empty in Rafah as families continue to flee in search of safety.... UNRWA estimates about 450,000 people have been forced to flee their homes since May 6."
Despite warnings from UN organizations about the consequences, Israel continues its air attacks on Rafah. Many of those displaced from east of Rafah had already left their homes elsewhere in Gaza over the past seven months, according to the UN office.
The United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed concerns that Israel's occupation of Rafah has jeopardized access to health services, the provision of health services, and the delivery of life-saving equipment.
The WHO also noted that its stakeholders handling medical aid in Gaza "need a minimum of 46,000 liters of fuel per day for their operations."
Additionally, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has announced that nearly 15,000 Palestinian children are among the more than 35,000 people killed so far in Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023
