Kenya says East African troops in DRC 'successful'
The Kenyan government has emphasized that the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) that served in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) until December last year was a great success.
In a speech in Nairobi, the Kenyan Prime Minister who is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi defended the regional army which has been blamed for failing to dismantle armed groups, saying the army was only aimed at maintaining peace.
The East African Community Regional Force was deployed to the DRC in November 2022 for an initial six months, which was extended until December last year.
The East African soldiers left the DRC following a complaint by the country's government, which claimed that the regional soldiers failed to target the M23 rebel group, which is considered a major threat to the DRC in eastern Congo.
Following the deployment of the East African soldiers, the DRC government has turned to the Southern African Development Community (SADC), which has already sent 5,000 soldiers to the east of the country.
