More cases of kidnapping are feared in Nigeria
The Federal Government of Nigeria has listed several schools in 14 states in the country as areas at risk of being attacked by robbers and armed criminals.
However, Hajia Halima Ilya, the National Coordinator of the safe schools project run by the Nigerian government did not mention the 14 states that were reported to be at risk of being attacked by bandits and criminals carrying weapons. Hajia Halima has explained that the institute has gathered information that will help them take measures to deal with kidnapping gangs. On the 7th of this month of March armed bandits kidnapped 287 students in the town of Kuriga in Kaduna state, northern Nigeria. Two days later armed robbers also attacked a boarding school in Gidan Bakuso village in Sokoto State and kidnapped 15 children. Fear will spread following cases of kidnapping in Nigeria President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria on the 8th of this month said that he has instructed the security and intelligence agencies to rescue the victims and ensure that the perpetrators and acts of crime are dealt with in accordance with the law. The number of kidnapped students in Nigeria has exceeded 1,400 since the Boko Haram militant group kidnapped 276 students almost ten years ago.
