Pope Francis' interview, parts of which were released on Saturday (9/3/2024), urged the Ukrainian government to take the lead in peace negotiations with Russia.

He said, "When you know that you are losing, then things will not go well, then you have to have the courage to negotiate."

Pope Francis' interview was conducted a month ago, and part of the contents of the interview were published on Saturday.

In the interview, Pope Francis said, "The strongest person is the one who observes the situation, thinks about the people, and bravely raises the white flag and negotiates."

On the other hand, the Ukrainian President continues to emphasize the absence of direct interaction with Russia, to carry out definite peace negotiations, and he demands the realization of his own peace program.

One of the Ukrainian President's demands is the total withdrawal of Russian troops from all Ukrainian territory and the revival of the old borders.

Meanwhile, Russia has repeatedly announced its readiness to carry out peace negotiations with Ukraine, otherwise the war will continue until the goal is achieved. (HS)
