New US sanctions against Russia
The US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on Friday imposed sanctions on three companies and three vessels for violating Western price ceilings on Russian oil.
According to a statement from the US Treasury, these six enterprises and vessels were transporting Russian crude oil at a price above the ceiling agreed upon by the coalition. The United States set a price cap on Russian oil at $60 a barrel in December 2022 and now claims sanctioned vessels and businesses were transporting Russian oil at prices above $70 a barrel. In response to Russia's attack on Ukraine, America and Western countries imposed sweeping sanctions on Moscow and sent billions of dollars in weapons and military equipment to Kyiv. Despite unprecedented sanctions and Western attempts to isolate Russia, the Kremlin manages to keep its economy afloat.
