Nigerians today Tuesday have planned to hold a new demonstration to complain about the increase in the cost of living. The protest named "October Without Fear" is planned to coincide with the commemoration of the 64th anniversary of Nigeria's independence.
Organizers of the protest have said that it will take place in the capital Abuja, in the port city of Lagos and in the state capitals of Nigeria.
Similar protests planned for today rocked Nigeria in July and August this year when protesters demanded the return of fuel subsidies and an end to government corruption.
Nigerian activists have said that around 12 people were killed in the protest during clashes with the police.
On his first day in office, Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu ended the country's decades-long fuel subsidy that helped reduce prices of essential commodities. His government also doubled the value of the country's currency and caused the price of almost everything to rise.
Despite President Tinubu defending his policies in his speech to the nation, he failed to reach an agreement with the protesters.
