WHO has said that it is preparing a team of experts to be sent to Rwanda armed with medical equipment to help the country control the spread of the disease.
The WHO Emergency Department in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, has said that equipment to prevent the spread of the disease will arrive in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, within the next few days. Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, Director of WHO in Africa has said, "We are preparing all the necessary measures to control the Marburg outbreak in Rwanda in a quick way." Rwanda has confirmed six deaths and 20 cases of Marburg disease since the outbreak was reported.
The Minister of Health of Rwanda, Sabin Nsanzimana has said that most of the victims of the virus are health workers, especially those who serve in the intensive care unit. Marburg disease is caused by a virus similar to Ebola and even its symptoms are not much different from Ebola disease. Symptoms of the disease include cough, joint pain, diarrhea and vomiting, and often even anemia.
