Pentagon: More than 20 countries joined the new naval alliance in the Red Sea
The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) claimed that the international naval coalition established against the attacks of the Houthis in Yemen against commercial ships in the Red Sea was only for defense and patrol purposes. According to 24 TV, Pentagon Spokesperson Brigadier General Patrick Ryder evaluated the developments in West Asia at the daily press conference. Claiming that the Houthis attacked the economic arteries of the countries and the welfare and comfort of the nations with their attacks, Patrick Ryder claimed, "They have almost become bandits of the sea route called the Red Sea." Noting that more than 20 countries have joined this coalition so far, Ryder said, "The forces assigned to Operation Welfare Guardian will patrol the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden and assist commercial ships passing through this vital international waterway by intervening as necessary." he said. Ryder argued that the Houthis are attacking not just one country, but the economic well-being of nations all over the world, saying, "The Houthis need to stop these attacks. They need to ask themselves whether they can confront all societies by negatively affecting billions of dollars of global trade, economic prosperity and international law." he said.
