LONDON - Seven years after the referendum that sealed their country's exit from the European Union, more than half of UK voters now want closer ties with the EU. And even in the regions where the vote in favor of divorce from Brussels was more clear-cut, today more than double of those questioned believe that the best path for the future is to move in the opposite direction, that is, to get closer to the continent.

Focaldata's poll was conducted on over 10,000 voters, by the Best for Britain movement. The survey is accompanied by detailed MRP (multi-level regression and post-stratification) analysis based on new constituencies - numbers that are likely to give Premier Rishi Sunak, who has supported Brexit in the past, sobering. The poll also says that 63% of respondents now believe Brexit has created more problems than it has solved, compared with 21% who believe it has solved more than it has created. Overall, 53% of voters now want the UK government to enter into a closer relationship with the EU than it has now, having left the single market and customs union. In contrast, only 14% who want the UK to stay away.
